Florida’s recruiting efforts from Saturday continue to pay dividends.

After landing a commitment late Sunday from the lone official visitor from the weekend in Australian punter Jeremy Crawshaw, the Gators doubled down and picked up a commitment from a rising in-state prospect.

Christopher Thomas, a 6-foot-5, 280-pound defensive end out of Dunbar High, committed to the Gators and coach David Turner over offers from Florida State and Texas A&M. Thomas took an unofficial visit to Gainesville for Florida’s 34-3 victory over Tennessee, marking his recruiting trip since the conclusion of the summer, and the trip was enough for the defensive tackle to commit to Florida.

“I would like to thank everyone on my journey and everybody who encouraged me to never give up,” Thomas wrote on his Twitter account, “and y’all will never go unnoticed, but with that being said I am 100% committed to University of Florida GO GATORS!!!”

With the addition of Thomas, the Gators hold commitment from six prospects in the 2021 class, which is ranked No. 5 nationally by 247Sports.

  1. WELCOME TO THE FLORIDA GATORS, CHRIS THOMAS!!! I am certain Christopher will contribute to the Gator D-Line in a big way – just listen to your coaches, follow the examples set by your older teammates, but in the hard work, be consistent, be a good student, and stay humble – you will excel and become an integral part of a soon-to-be legendary football team. In fact, you can and will help make your team elite and legendary GO Gators!!!

  2. Chris Thomas will be a critical component of the 2021 class, as we all know the SEC is a line of scrimmage conference. Holding on to the #5 spot in the 247 class ranking is vital for a Gator return to the top of the mountain.

To appreciate the value of consistent top 5 recruiting classes, compare today’s AP top 10 with the 247 2019 4-year Composite Class ranking top 10 on this link:

The similarities in the 2 lists are hard to argue with. The value of coaching and player development evident in the 247 list, which CDM and staff are very good at, is also hard to argue with.
