Despite sitting idle during Week One of the college football season, the Gators seemingly found a way to improve their ranks for the long run.

Clinton Burton, Jr., a 5-foot-11, 175-pound cornerback out of Baltimore’s St. Frances Academy, committed to the Gators late Sunday night over offers from Alabama and Clemson. The No. 4 overall prospect from the state of Maryland, Burton took an unofficial visit to UF at the start of the summer, and the initial trip was ultimately enough for Florida to land the top-ranked defensive back.

“I want to thank my family for all the sacrifices they have made for me throughout my life and for keeping me out of bad situations and on the right path. Thank you for everyone who has taken care of me since my mom passed,” Burton wrote on his Twitter account. “With all that being said I would like to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Florida.”

Ranked the No. 9 cornerback in the 2021 class by 247Sports, Burton is the latest prospect to commit to UF’s No. 5-ranked 2021 class, which now holds commitments from five prospects.

  1. This may be a one-of, since this kid is a DB prospect and the Gators are DBU. BUUUUUT, did everybody catch who the Gators beat out for this early commitment??? It wasn’t 24 other schools. It was just two, but NOT just any two. 😉

I hope this is the start of a welcome trend. To be the best, you have to beat the best!

    GO GATORS!!!
