Sun sports columnist Pat Dooley takes a look at the first half of the Florida-Tennessee game:

  • Maybe we should just forget about the running game for Florida and let Dan Mullen calls plays like Mike Leach. Florida had only 46 rushing yards and 204 passing. You can’t help but feel like the lack of balance is going to bite the Gators at some point. Kyle Trask looked good, but the pressure from opposing defenses is going to be different down the road.
  • The injuries keep piling up and this time it was Ventrell Miller going to the locker room early in the game. Even with all of the injuries, Florida held Tennessee to 15 rushing yards for the half.
  • Kyle Pitts is becoming a beast and a lot of the players started talking about his future last December during Peach Bowl week. Pitts had some big plays last week and had three catches for 51 yards and a score in this first half. The guy gets open and is hard to bring down.
  • Trask finished the half 13-of-15 and Jarrett Guarantano was 8-of-15. Guarantano had a wide-open receiver running free in the second quarter and overthrew him. Emory Jones came in for two series and it was an unproductive and unimaginative 3-and-out on the second one. Maybe setting something up for the second half?
