An update on former UF athletes making moves in the pro ranks:

NFL

*Chris Thompson, a second-year receiver, signed with the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday. He was signed by the Houston Texans in 2017 as an undrafted free agent. He saw action in 2017 playing in 13 games and as a punt returner and kick returner with an average of 6.5 yards per return on punts and 21.7 yards per return on kicks.

Thompson was waived in 2018 during final roster cuts and did not play in the NFL during the season. He played in the now-defunct Alliance of American Football for the Orlando Apollos in the spring.

*Running back Mack Brown signed with the Oakland Raiders on Saturday. Brown was a free agent who spent part of last season on the Washington Redskins’ practice squad.

Brown has also played for Minnesota, appearing in 13 games over three seasons. For his career, he has 16 rush attempts for 111 yards and one score, while adding two receptions for 9 yards.

The 27-year-old Brown is 5-foot-11 and 213 pounds. He played at college in Florida and was not drafted.

MLB

*Boston Red Sox left-hander Brian Johnson (1-1, 6.43 ERA before the game) pitched three innings in Saturday’s 6-4 loss to the NY Yankees in his first appearance since June 22 after being sidelined by an unspecified, non-baseball-related medical matter. He gave up eight hits and three runs and struck out two. Reliever Matt Barnes suffered the loss.

Johnson was activated before the game. He has been limited to just 14 innings this year due to injuries before Saturday.
