Two players will be wearing the coveted No. 1 jersey this season — junior cornerback CJ Henderson on defense and junior wide receiver Kadarius Toney on offense.

UF revealed that with the release of a new football roster for the 2019 season Monday.

Here are some of the numbers that have been assigned to the true freshmen who enrolled in Summer B last week — Kaiir Elam (No. 5), running back Nay’Quan Wright (No. 6), tight end Keon Zipperer (No. 9), Chester Kimbrough (No. 25), defensive tackle Jalen Humphries (No. 66), defensive end Khris Bogle (No. 97) and defensive end Lloyd Summerall III (No. 99).

In one other roster note, preferred walk-on quarterback Luke Matthews will be wearing the same number his All-SEC quarterback dad Shane Matthews wore for the Gators — No. 9.

  1. Luke and Matthew, two of the four Gospels. Could be at least the same positive influence as Danny and Timmy, and if you believe in miracles, then who knows what he will accomplish. At least we know he is a die hard Gator!

I was never much for worrying about the number I wore. I felt the number didn’t make me. I made the number. I still have my Pony League all-star baseball jersey with my name on the back above the number 13. That was a good season.
