Florida quarterback Feleipe Franks received some interesting news Wednesday afternoon as he walked out of a quarterback meeting.

Franks, Florida’s incumbent starting quarterback, was taken by the Boston Red Sox in the 31st round (the 947th overall selection) of the 2019 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft.

“I’m flattered that the Red Sox picked me this afternoon,” Franks said. “However, I’m living out my dream being the quarterback of the Florida Gators. We’re all working extremely hard this offseason and I cannot wait to hit the field this fall.”

Franks, who hasn’t played baseball since his junior year of high school because he graduated in Dec. 2015 and early enrolled at Florida, was rated as the No. 500 overall baseball prospect in the country by Perfect Game in the spring of 2016. In addition, Franks was rated as the No. 117 overall player in the state of Florida and the No. 41 right-handed pitcher nationally.

Franks is the first UF quarterback selected in the MLB Amateur Draft since Jeff Driskel was selected in the 29th round by the Red Sox in 2013.

  1. Not surpried that Franks is staying. Also not surprised to learn that Chris Steele (remember him), the 5-star DB who\enrolled early at UF only to hit the transfer button in May, is now headed to Southern Cal to be near mom and dad. Very few California kids can handle life in Florida, especially when family is 2500 miles away.
He didn’t want to be at Fla., so goodbye.

      • Nope, just pulled a double whammo and went c USC, kind of like that kid who signed with Texas first. I’m not sure in retrospect that we wanted this guy, but of course we’ll certainly never win another game now that we lost our only 5* recruit ever. Oh the horror…..the inhumanity of it…….we’re doomed!

      • So it would appear the homesick story has legs. That should be the end of the request for a waiver to play this year. Little Chrissy decided he missed his mama and the whole Jalen Jones fiasco was just a convenient excuse. Somewhat appropriate that he is finding a home at the University of Spoiled Children.

If you ain’t a Gator, you’re Gator bait. Good luck with the condoms.

All of this about an 18 year old kid. You stay classy, Albert_D.
