The four Florida players selected off of baseball coach Kevin O’Sullivan’s squad — shortstop Brady McConnell (second round, Kansas City Royals), pitcher Tyler Dyson (fifth, Washington Nationals), right fielder Will Dalton (eighth, Boston) and outfielder Nelson Maldonado (21st, Chicago Cubs) have all signed pro contracts.
McConnell’s slot price was $1,689,500. Kansas City went well over that figure in signing McConnell to a $2,222,450 bonus, per MLB.com.
Dyson’s slot value was at $346,800, but signed for $500,000, according to MLB.com.
Red Sox optioned lefty Bobby Poyner to Pawtucket earlier this week. Poyner allowed five earned runs in three innings in a game this week and saw his ERA balloon to 15.75. He was called up Monday. Poyner made a pair of appearances for the Red Sox back in April, giving up two runs over one inning of work. He owns a 3.91 ERA in 25.1 frames for Triple-A Pawtucket.
Boston reinstated lefty Brian Johnson from the 10-day injury list (elbow) on Friday.
