Updated (1:15 p.m.) Former Florida forward Devin Robinson has accepted a summer league invite with the Washington Wizards.
Robinson, 22, was not picked among 60 selections and two rounds in the NBA draft on Thursday night.
The 6-foot-8 Robinson, who opted to skip his senior season and turn pro, averaged 11.1 points and 6.1 rebounds for the Gators this past season, helping lead UF to its ninth Elite Eight appearance in school history. Now, Robinson will try to latch on with the Wizards or another NBA roster as a free agent.
Robinson had been projected as an early second-round pick when he declared for the draft in April, but his stock slipped to a late second-round pick by draft night.
Four SEC players went in the draft, with three coming from Kentucky. Former Kentucky point guard De’Aaron Fox went fifth overall to the Sacramento Kings, followed by ex-Wildcats’ shooting guard Malik Monk (11th, Charlotte Hornets) and center Bam Adebayo (14th, Miami Heat). South Carolina guard and SEC player of the year Sindarius Thornwell went 48th overall in the second round to the Milwaukee Bucks, who traded his rights to the Los Angeles Clippers.
The last UF player taken in the NBA draft was forward Erik Murphy, who went in the second round (49th overall) to the Chicago Bulls in 2013.
In addition, former UF forward Canyon Barry announced on his Twitter account that he’s accepted a summer league invite with the New York Knicks. Barry, the SEC’s sixth man of the year and son of basketball Hall of Famer Rick Barry, averaged 11.4 points and 2.8 rebounds as a grad transfer for the Gators this past season.
Barry also became the 55th UF athlete to earn an NCAA postgraduate scholarship, worth $7,500. A CoSida Academic All-American, Barry maintained a 4.0 grade point average in nuclear engineering in his first graduate year at UF.
