Consensus four-star safety Marcell Harris narrowed down his list of over 20 offers Friday and the Gators made the cut as expected.
The Orlando Dr. Phillips prospect announced a Top 6 (in no specific order) of Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Texas on ESPN RecruitingNation’s weekly podcast ‘The Verbal Commitment.’
Here’s what Harris had to say about UF:
“Florida, what can I say about them. (Head coach) Will Muschamp, coach T-Rob the DB coach, defensive coordinator Dan (Quinn), they’re all good guys. Florida is in Gainesville and Gainesville is where I was born and raised. So that’s always a plus. I go there quite a few just because it’s closer than all the other schools. I don’t want to take anything from them. But I’ve been up there a couple times and it’s still my hometown. My grandmother and everybody still lives there.”
Harris has been to UF more than any other school, with his most recent trips being for Friday Night Lights and Florida’s practice on Aug. 5.
The Gators are believed to have the edge right now over Texas, which will host Harris for an official visit on Sept. 1. The 6-foot-1, 207-pounder plans to make his decision sometime during his senior season.
