Final Scout rankings released

Scout.com released its final top 300 player rankings Tuesday. There were a few shakeups from the previous rankings, and Florida recruits have been thrown all over the place.

There was debate that after quarterback Jeff Driskel’s struggles at the Under Armour All-America Game practices earlier this month he might fall behind Ohio State commit Braxton Miller as the nation’s top-rated quarterback. However, Driskel maintained his spot at the top, but is listed as the No. 34 prospect in the country, two slots ahead of Miller.

The only other Florida commitment to make the top 100 players was running back Mike Blakely, who came in at No. 86. Seven of Florida’s 15 verbals made the list.

Thirteen new players found their way into the top 50 (the five-star group). Guys with interest in Florida who became new five-stars include Tampa Alonso defensive end Anthony Chickillo (Miami commit) and McKeesport, Pa., defensive tackle Delvon Simmons.

Here’s a look at how Florida’s commits and some prospects fared in the final Scout rankings.

  1. I not worried about Wilder or any other player that has committed to some other school, I thing we or the coaches should concentrate on the few excellent players still on the board and there are some out there. I see Hounshell has committed to Notre Dame, good for him. All of these guys that have walked away from a National Championship is doing so with their eyes wide open. We all know that they have been fed some turmoil at Florida crap but its their decision. Lets work on the guys thats yet to make a decision. My personal feeling on Jernigan is FSU, he has an offer to Florida and would be welcome, but allow him to make his decision without hassling or even begging. Use that energy toward Grant, Maggitt, Simmons, Brisset, Rasco and Anthony. Lets try and land those guy that’s a hell of a hall. FSU wins the recruiting battle for one year and we win another National championship in the next two or three years, who’s the real winner?? FSU and Clemson are still sucking hind tit to Va. Tech, Ga. Tech, and North Carolina.

  2. Well said Creek Gator, Although I’v gotta feeling…with the hire of Young we have a real shot at TJ. I think we sign him. You’re absolutely right…I wouldn’t waste anymore. Energy on these committed guys. You run the risk of getting guys full of egos.I also think we will fare very well with a few of these guys still on the board. We definately need to sign atleast three o linemen. Go Gators!!!

  3. Finally some people who aren’t trying to trash FSU’s academics. Good. Let’s keep things related to football talk.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Wilder chose Florida. I don’t think he will, but he was a Gator fan growing up. Like the other guys said: he’s been recruiting very heavily for us at these all-star games and such, and I don’t think he’ll walk away at this point.

FSU just has an incredible class this year. Jimbo is doing a great job. Florida, if you go to ESPN and look, has a ton of talent out there considering the school. Florida could wind up top five, top three, when this is all said and done.

  4. UF does not get Grant (North Carolina), Rasco (LSU), Brisset (Miama or FSU) or Jernigan (LSU or FSU). There is still plenty of talent left after that. The reality is that the FSU vs UF rivalry is back. I personally believe that each of the big 3 takes turns at the top with Miami owning the 80’s, FSU the 90’s and UF the last decade. It is just time for the rotation to change and since Miami is not picking it up, FSU is. Dont quote me, simply check the HISTORY!!!

  5. lee – I was just listing players Florida still has some sort of interest in. It’s not a great sign for UF’s staff that a lot of them are committed elsewhere, but there could be some guys that are quietly looking at UF. This time of year brings plenty of surprises.

  6. By the way Ed you do a wonderful job, and we appreciate your work. If we get four or five of those guys left on the board who say they have legitimate interest in Florida, we have a very good class under the circumstances. You are very correct about the surprises on NSD, but you won’t get but maybe one( extreme case) two players that will swing. Lets be realistic and go after the uncommitted. I’m no football genius but I’m really not that impressed with Wilder, I’ve watched him play two games and he could be an awesome player but does not run the motor long, he takes off too many plays.

  7. Wilder’s not leaving FSU. They recuited him at Running Back! That’s what he wants to be! I’m really not that impressed with Wilder as a RB either. I think he runs way to high and will get killed in college! Florida recuited him as a LB and he is much more suited for that, but he went to were the music was sweeter! He will have to let go of his ego and move to LB sooner or later!
