It appears that former UF forward Jonathan Mitchell will wind up in the Big East Conference for his final two seasons of eligibility.
Mitchell’s uncle, Herb Mitchell confirmed Tuesday that Mitchell has visits scheduled at Seton Hall the weekend of May 2-3 and St. John’s the weekend of May 16-17.
A visit to a third Big East school likely will be finalized in a few days, Herb Mitchell said.
Mitchell announced his decision to transfer from Florida on April 12, citing playing time as the main issue. In two seasons at Florida, Mitchell had just one career start and never averaged more than 11 minutes per game.
Under NCAA transfer rules, Mitchell will sit out the 2008-09 if he ends up at another Division I school, but will have two years of eligibility remaining starting in the 2009-10 season.
Mitchell, a Mount Vernon, N.Y., native, broke Ben Gordon’s scoring record at tradition-rich Mount Vernon High School.
