Grading the Gators

Offense ” A-

First half: Florida went up and down the field with ease, scoring 28 points and going over the 300-yard mark in offense.

Second half: Scuffled at times but a 98-yard drive helped put the game away as Riley Cooper continued to have a big game.

For the game: Just as we suspected, Florida has plenty of weapons on offense this season.

Defense ” B-

First half: First drive was a bit alarming as was the last which produced Western Kentucky’s only points of the half.

Second half: Getting down to the third-string Hilltoppers quarterback didn’t hurt, but there is work to do.

For the game: Once these guys start shaving, they could be pretty good. The youth showed at times, especially with missed tackles.

Special teams ” B

First half: Jarrod Fayson was solid returning punts but Chas Henry’s first Gator punt went 20 yards and was almost blocked.

Second half: Chris Rainey showed his moves on one punt return and Henry had a much better second half.

For the game: Not a bad start for special teams and that was without Brandon James returning kicks.

Overall ” B

Clearly, this is an offense that can be explosive and a defense that will have its shaky moments.
