You think you know who's going to win, but do you? Sometimes that envelope can hold a big surprise. Here are a few darkhorses that may shake things up:

Best Supporting Actor: George Clooney. Even though he would be more correctly situated in the best actor category for his "Syriana" nomination, or as a supporting actor for his role in "Good Night, and Good Luck."

Best Supporting Actress: Michelle Williams as the misled wife in "Brokeback Mountain."

Best Actor: Like Philip Seymour Hoffman, David Strathairn went far beyond impersonation in getting to the heart of Edward R. Murrow in "Good Night, and Good Luck," and in any other year, would be the ace instead of the wild card.

Best Actress: Felicity Huffman, who was extraordinary as a male-to-female transsexual in "Transamerica."

Best Director: Clooney's second outing as director ("Good Night, and Good Luck") proves he is anything but a dilettante. Should he edge out Ang Lee, it would be the Oscar headline.

Best Picture: "Crash," which touched a social nerve that deserves to be poked and prodded.
