Pallbearers, including Al Tomes, in white shirt, carry the casket of Baby Jane out of the First Baptist Church on Friday morning. About 80 area residents came to the funeral Friday morning to pay their last respects to the infant who was found in a pond in northern Alachua County. Tomes lives near the pond and was one of the people to first discover the infant.

One of the more visible memorial gardens is the one dedicated to the five students murdered in Gainesville 13 years ago this week. The five palm trees and assorted shrubbery in the median in front of the 34th Street Wall is maintained by Nick West and funded, in part, by a variety of donors.
