AUBURN, Ala - Top-ranked Florida defeated No. 3 Auburn 8-5 to win the SEC opening series Sunday. The Gators (26-0, 2-0 SEC) go for the sweep over the Tigers (22-3, 0-2) at 7 p.m. Monday.

Among the standouts at the plate for the Gators were Taylore Fuller (went 3-for-3, including a home run and drove in two runs), Nicole DeWitt (hit a three-run homer) and Amanda Lorenz (hit a two-run home run). The teams combined to hit six home runs.

"I think you just have to give credit to the hitters on both teams," UF coach Tim Walton said. "When a pitcher made a mistake, each hitter made the other team pay. It was clear on all the replays on TV that those were all no doubt home runs."

Aleshia Ocasio earned the win in relief of starting pitcher Kelly Barnhill, who gave up four runs on four hits in three innings. Ocasio allowed just one unearned run on three hits in four innings of work and struck out four.

"I'm very pleased with how she's been able to change speeds, change her pace and her location," Walton said of Ocasio. "Her competitiveness has been really good too. I'm just really happy with the way Aleshia has been able to give us the momentum back in these two games. It's comforting to have someone come in and do a great job like she's done."
