Student physicals

The Alachua County Health Department will extend its back-to-school physicals and immunization clinics.

The next clinic will be held from 5-7:30 p.m. Aug. 27 at the Health Department at 224 SE 24th St. Appointments are required.

The physicals are provided free of charge for those who have Medicaid. Co-pays will apply to those with private insurance and it is $25 for all others. School required immunizations will be provided at no cost or co-pays.

A child must be accompanied by a parent, legal guardian or other authorized family member. The parent or guardian must bring a photo ID and an insurance card. Parents and guardians also are reminded to bring the child's shot record.

Job recruitment

CareerSource North Central Florida will hold a job recruitment event for H&R Block.

It will be held from noon-5 p.m. Thursday at CareerSource at 4800 SW 13th St.

Real Men

Real Men of Gainesville will honor men in the community.

The event will be held from 4-8 p.m. Aug. 30 at All Star Sports Bar and Grill at 4251 SW 13th St. Tickets are $10.

Featured will be an awards ceremony, entertainment and food. The host will be Clif Patrick.

NAACP

The Alachua County branch NAACP will hold its monthly meeting.

It will be held at 6 p.m. Aug. 28 at the Santa Fe College Blount Center Conference Room at 526 NW 5th Ave.

Bethune events

The Bethune Cookman University Alachua County Alumni Chapter will be having a "BIG TV RAFFLE."

The chapter will be raffling off a 42-inch flat screen. Tickets are $2 each and are available from all members of the chapter. The drawing will be held on Oct. 9.

Also, middle and high school students from church and community groups are invited to the historic Church and Community Day.

It will be held on Sept. 27 at Bethune in Daytona. The cost is $10 and includes a campus tour, activities, game ticket, lunch and a T-shirt. The deadline to register is Sept. 1.

Honorees wanted

Do you have a loved one age 21 and up who has battled, is battling, or at high risk of having breast cancer?

Then, consider nominating them as an honoree for the "Still Standing" R&B dedication event.

It will be held on Oct. 18, but nominations must be received by Sept. 1.

Computer classes

The Santa Fe College Community Outreach and East Gainesville Instruction will offer free computer classes.

Classes are held at the Porter's Community Center at 512 SW 2nd Terrace, Library Partnership at 1130 NE 16th Ave. and Mount Carmel Baptist Church at 2505 NE 8th Ave. Space is limited to 10 each class.

On Saturday at Gardenia Garden Apartments, from 10-11:30 a.m., learn basic skills. Senior citizens are welcome.

On Aug. 30 at Mount Carmel, from 10-11:30 a.m., get basic skills, and from 1-3 p.m., learn Word, fliers, resumes, business cards, brochures and more.

Elder Options

The Grant Review Committee of the Elder Options Board of Directors will hold a public meeting.
