Suspicious bag outside county building held clothes

(Update at 2:34 p.m.): Authorities have issued an all clear after closing streets around the Alachua County Administration building this afternoon after a suspicious bag was found by the front door.
A portable X-ray screening of the briefcase showed it contains clothes, according to Gainesville Police.
Sheriff’s spokesman Art Forgey said that someone called about a black bag that was abandoned at the doorway of the administration building at 12 SE First St. around 1 p.m.
(Original story): Authorities are investigating a suspicious bag that was left outside the front door of the Alachua County Administration Building Tuesday afternoon.
Officials have not ordered a mandatory evacuation, but have given employees in the building the option to leave, Gainesville Police Department spokesman Ben Tobias said.
The Alachua County Sheriff's Office bomb squad has taken a portable X-ray of the briefcase and contents are being analyzed, GPD said.
Traffic remains blocked in the area around the building.

Officials have not determined what is inside the bag, but are getting bomb experts to take a look at it, he said.
Tobias said that the original call described the bag as a leather briefcase.
