No. 3 Vernon Hargreaves III

School: Florida

Year: Sophomore

Position: Cornerback

Height: 5-foot-11

Weight: 192 pounds

Why he's No. 3: As a true freshman, Hargreaves was forced into the lineup because of Marcus Roberson's injury. He started the final 10 games of the season and immediately made an impact.

Florida couldn't ease him into the secondary because of Roberson's injury, but it never looked like he needed it.

Hargreaves was second in the SEC in pass breakups with 11 and that total tied Janoris Jenkins for the most ever by a UF freshman. He also had three interceptions which put him seventh in the conference.

As Florida quarterback Jeff Driskel said, “Vernon knows how to play football.” His performance as a first-year player earned him numerous first-team Freshman All-American honors and he was named SEC defensive newcomer of the year by Athlon magazine.

He also showed he's not afraid to hit as he made 38 tackles last season.

Hargreaves has an instinct for the football and with a year under his belt, he could be on the verge of a special season. Of course, that will only happen if opposing offenses try to test Hargreaves Island.
