A 50-year-old Wellborn bicyclist was killed early Tuesday in Suwannee County after a driver hit the bicyclist from behind, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.
The bicyclist, who was pronounced dead on scene, has not been identified because officials still have to contact his or her next of kin, the FHP report said.
Amberlee Joy Price, 30, of Jennings was driving her 2010 Ford Taurus on 180th Street near 47th Drive south of Wellborn at about 6:38 a.m. The bicyclist was traveling in the same direction ahead of Price on a Schwinn bicycle, the report said.
The right tire of Price’s car traveled slightly off the paved road and onto the north grass shoulder before hitting the rear tire of the bicycle. The bicyclist was thrown off of the bicycle and landed on the hood of Price’s vehicle, the report said.
Price stopped her car as the bicyclist fell off the hood of the car and onto the north grass shoulder, the report said. According to the report, Price had no injuries.
FHP officials still are investigating the incident, and the results of the bicyclist’s and Price’s blood-alcohol tests are pending, the report said.
