Police arrested a Gainesville woman Sunday night alleging that she burned down her boyfriend's mobile home after an argument.
Lamarvin Bennett, of 2515 NE 50th Drive, originally called the Gainesville Police Department to report that his girlfriend Kathy Gadson, 30, of the same address, had stolen his vehicle after a heated argument around 7:50 p.m., an arrest report said.
When officers arrived, they said the found Bennett's mobile home engulfed in flames. Gainesville Fire Rescue extinguished the fire, but the home was a total loss, the report said.
Bennett told police that he and Gadson were arguing over accusations of cheating when Gadson took his vehicle and left. While Bennett was on the phone with law enforcement officers, Gadson came back and they argued again, the report said.
Bennett went outside the home to call police and let them know his girlfriend had returned. Police said that's when Gadson left the house and told Bennett, “The bed's on fire,” then left in Bennett's vehicle, the report said.
Police called Gadson and agreed to meet her at the Dollar General store on Hawthorne Road, the report said.
After she was arrested, Gadson said her relationship with Bennett was abusive, and that she wanted to leave. Gadson said she became frustrated during their argument and flicked her cigarette on the bed, the report said.
Gadson told an arson investigator that she waited until the flames were 3 to 4 inches high and the room was filled with smoke to leave the house.
Gadson was charged with one felony count of arson, according to the report. She was being held Monday at the Alachua County jail in lieu of $100,000 bond.
