More afternoon rain, high temps on tap this week

Warm temperatures are expected alongside afternoon showers and thunderstorms each day this week.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms will erupt today after 5 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Jacksonville. A 20 percent chance of afternoon showers is forecast for tonight.

Weather officials are also monitoring a low-pressure system off Florida’s northeast coast for further development. The system is forecast to drift south off the coast through midweek.

Temperatures will range from the mid-90’s to the low-70s all week, though heat index values will reach 100.

A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms is expected Tuesday after 3 p.m. Possible showers will continue before midnight.

Rain chances will rise slightly on Wednesday, reaching a 40 percent chance throughout the day.

A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms will persist on Thursday, Friday and into the weekend.
