A Live Oak man was killed in an accident on Interstate 10 in Suwannee County early Wednesday morning.

Jeffery N. Russell, 48, was killed in the crash, the Florida Highway Patrol reported in a press release. The accident happened about 4:40 a.m. on I-10 westbound at Mile Marker 271.

Angela M. Meadows, 41, of Wesley Chapel, was driving a 2012 Hyundai Genesis in the right lane while Russell was driving a 1987 Chevrolet van in the right lane in front of her, according to FHP.

For unknown reasons, Meadows failed to see Russell’s van in time to avoid a collision. Both vehicles ran onto the shoulder and overturned.

Russell, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the van and died at the scene, FHP reported. Meadows was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

Charges are pending.
