Deputies arrested a Gainesville man Wednesday night after they say he drove under the influence of alcohol and marijuana while his three stepchildren were in the back seat.
Employees at the Park Place Car Wash on Northwest Fourth Boulevard said they saw Albert Carter Jr., 26, in his car with a bag of marijuana and bottles of alcohol around 6:19 p.m., an Alachua County Sheriff’s Office report said.
Deputies later found Carter as he drove out of a business on Northwest Fourth Boulevard and then cut off an RTS bus to make a right turn. Officials said they followed Carter’s vehicle on Newberry Road, where they saw him swerving through traffic, the report said.
After deputies stopped him, Carter told them he had been drinking and smoking marijuana before the traffic stop. The report said Carter’s three stepchildren, ages 4, 5, and 7 years old, were also in the car and that the two younger children were not in child seats or fastened properly.
Carter was charged with a DUI and three counts of child neglect, according to the report. He was being held Thursday at the Alachua County jail in lieu of $35,000 bond.
