FHSAA Class 1A State Final

Who: No. 1 Williston (24-4) vs. No. 3 Chipley (23-7)

Where: JetBlue Park, Fort Myers

When: Tuesday, 7:35 p.m.

How they got here: Williston def. Paxton 4-0 in state semifinals, def. Pierson Taylor 4-1 in regional finals, def. Wildwood 15-0 in five innings in regional semifinals; Chipley def. Lafayette 11-1 in five innings in state semifinals, def. Panama City Bozeman 1-0 in regional finals, def. Liberty County 5-1 in regional semifinals.

State history: Williston last played in the state finals in 1923, winning its only baseball title (5-0 over Summerlin Institute of Bartow) and avenging its 1922 state final loss to Summerlin (9-0). Chipley last played in the state finals in 1926.

Extra bases: Williston is 1-8 in FHSAA state championships, losing its last eight. The last state title came in 1923. Both teams have suffered playing in upper classifications with Chipley losing to Pensacola Catholic, Jacksonville Bolles and Jacksonville Episcopal in the past. In his first two years as Red Devil coach, Scott Hall's teams lost to Orlando Bishop Moore in the 4A regional finals (2012) and Ocala Trinity Catholic (2013) in the 3A regional semifinals.
