Florida junior catcher Taylor Gushue was chosen as the SEC Player of the Week on Monday for the first time in his career after hitting .615 in four outings and leading the Gators to their third SEC championship in five years.

Gushue batted .615 (8-for-13) as the Gators claimed three of four games last week. He helped the Gators secure the outright SEC championship by going 7-for-11 (.636) in the series win at Tennessee. He had a pair of three-hit outings, with four RBI, four walks and three doubles against the Vols. He captured the league’s batting title in conference games with a .389 clip. He was the runner-up in SEC contests in slugging percentage (.583) and on-base percentage (.449). And he leads the team with a .335 batting average, 46 runs batted in and six home runs.

The top-seeded Gators (37-19) will begin play at the SEC tournament on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. on CSS against the winner of Tuesday’s game between eighth-seeded Alabama (34-21) and ninth-seeded Kentucky (32-22).
