No. 5 Florida looks to pad its NCAA resume when it takes on Georgia at 4 p.m. Thursday in the SEC softball tournament in Columbia, S.C. UF is the defending tournament champion and is trying to win back-to-back conference championships for the second time in program history (2008-09).
Who: Georgia (42-12) vs. Florida (45-10)
When: 4 p.m. Thursday
The Gators (45-10) look to earn a spot as host of the first two weekends of the national tournament. With the No. 1 spot in the latest Ratings Percentage Index, the Gators are primed to accomplish that feat if they win the league tournament. Georgia (42-12) is No. 3 in the RPI.
Florida has won the SEC tournament three times in the last six seasons (2008, Baton Rouge, La.; 2009, Knoxville, Tenn.; 2013, Lexington, Ky.), the most in the conference in that span.
The Gators are 71-54 (.568) all-time in postseason games, including 22-23 (.489) in the SEC tournament and a 49-31 (.613) mark in the NCAA tournament.
A win would put Florida in Friday's semifinal against Alabama, South Carolina or Auburn at 5:30 p.m. on ESPNU. Saturday's championship game is set for 8 p.m. on ESPN2.
Following the SEC tournament, the Gators will learn their NCAA Regional site and opponents Sunday night, when the tournament field is revealed at 10 p.m. on ESPNU.
