Extra bases: The host Hurricanes are in their third regional in the last four years and ninth in the last 13 years. They are looking for their first postseason win since 2011. Gainesville has a team batting average of .203, with senior Nick McGriff hitting a team-best .265 with 19 RBIs. Senior Will Whitlock had a grand slam and Nico Samarkos and Bronson Lang each had two-run singles in the Hurricanes' 10-0 win over Middleburg to win their first district title since 2008. The visiting Patriots are in their 20th regional in the last 21 years, have won four state titles in their history and played in the state finals three of the last five years, and five of the last nine years, winning their last state title (5A) in 2010. Pace, the top seed in District 1, was upset by Pensacola Escambia 3-1 in the district final.
