Campus USA Credit Union announced Friday that Larry Scott has retired as president and CEO after 23 years at the helm and will be replaced by Chief Operations Officer Jerry Benton.
Scott came to the credit union in 1990 after 20 years at a Birmingham, Ala., credit union. At the time, Campus USA was called Your Campus Federal Credit Union with three locations and $90 million in assets. Today, Campus USA, headquartered in Jonesville, has 15 locations, $1.2 billion in assets and 70,000 members.
In a 2012 interview with The Sun, Scott attributed Campus USA's growth in large part to a switch to a community charter in the mid-1990s that allowed the credit union to expand membership beyond employees and students of the University of Florida and Shands to anyone in the communities it serves, which now includes 12 counties.
Larry and wife, Gayle Scott, served as chairpersons for last week's March of Dimes March for Babies.
Benton joined Campus USA 14 years ago after serving on the management team of Decatur EarthMover Credit Union in Illinois. He is a graduate of Millikin University in Decatur, Ill.
“We couldn't be happier with the board's decision to select Jerry as my successor, after conducting a national search,” Scott said in a news release. “He is an excellent leader who is well respected in our industry, by our staff, and the communities we serve. He has been instrumental in our growth and success over the last 14 years.”
