An early morning fire caused extensive damage to a house in northeast Gainesville Wednesday.

The blaze was reported about 2:20 a.m. at 3711 NE 11th Terrace, and the first arriving firefighters saw fire and heavy smoke coming from the house, Gainesville Fire Rescue District Chief James Lovvorn reported in a press release.

Firefighters started an interior fire attack coordinated with search and rescue operations for possible victims. The fire was quickly controlled and no injuries were reported.

Lovvorn said extensive damage occurred to the house and the belongings. Red Cross responded to assist the residents.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. There were a total of six fire rescue vehicles that responded carrying a total of 17 personnel.
