Shannon Gilroy and Sam Darcangelo led the No. 5 Florida lacrosse team to a dominant 20-4 victory over the Michigan Wolverines to open American Lacrosse Conference play on Saturday afternoon at Donald R. Dizney Stadium.
A total of ten Gators found the back of the net, with Gilroy and Darcangelo each scoring four goals and dishing out an assist.
Darcangelo's five points is a career high for the sophomore. Mollie Stevens tallied three goals, Sammi Burgess notched two goals and Nora Barry added two of her own and an assist for the Gators (7-1, 1-0 in the ALC). Lauren Lea, Carly Ross, Devon Schneider, Carli Marsh and Darcy Messina all contributed goals for UF.
Tess Korten, Kim Coughlan, Anna Schueler and Lauren Oberlander scored goals for Michigan (0-4, 0-1).
“It was another great team win for us. I'm extremely happy with the distribution of goals today; various people stepped up and that was good to see,” Florida coach Amanda O'Leary said.
“I'm excited on how we did in the draw circle, but I'd like to see some improvement on the ground balls. I'm very happy with how Cara (Canington) and Mary-Sean (Wilcox) did in the goal cage.”
Florida hosts Winthrop on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at Donald R. Dizney Stadium.
