■ After 19 straight years and 33 years overall, the state basketball tournaments could be moving from Lakeland. After Saturday's Class 8A final, the three-year contract with the city will be up and FHSAAAA Executive Director Roger Dearing said in Thursday's (Lakeland) Ledger that the organization feels “like we're not welcomed here.” This stems from legislators from Lakeland trying to change policies within the FHSAA , even challenging its existence. In Thursday's article, Dearing said he is not punishing the city, and it will be considered again, along with the other three cities that have expressed interest in hosting the tournaments — Palm Beach, Orlando and Jacksonville. Stay tuned.

■ Four days after the Paxton girls won the Class 1A state basketball title in Lakeland, beating Chipley in the championship game, their assistant coach Randy Infinger died of a heart attack. Infinger, 49, coached multiple sports at Paxton for 25 years. The Bobcats beat Chiefland in the state semifinals.

■ The third annual SMiLe (Sarah M. Landauer) Lacrosse Tournament begins Friday at Eastside with the Rams girls and boys teams playing. The boys face Gainesville at 7:45 p.m., preceded by the girls taking on Gulf Breeze at 6 p.m. There are nine games scheduled for Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m., with Buchholz and Oak Hall also competing. There is a 5K run on Saturday at the school beginning at 8 a.m. with registration at 7. A portion of the tournament and 5K run proceeds benefits the Sarah M. Landauer Memorial Soccer Endowment at UF. To date, the Eastside Rams Boys Lacrosse Booster Club has donated more than $5,000 to this endowment.

■ On Tuesday, Ben Koff of Buchholz was mistakenly left off the athletes of the week roundup. Koff, a junior, went 2 for 3 at the plate and pitched five scoreless innings with six strikeouts against Citrus. Apologies for the omission.
