More than 200 Eastside High School students, along with students from the University of Florida and concerned community residents, turned out Saturday to pack meals during the Eastside Hunger Project.

Organized by Rachel Kyes, an Eastside student who also founded the Feeding Children Everywhere Club at Eastside, more than 40,000 meals consisting of non-perishable items were packaged.

The cost to cover the meals was raised over the past few months and totaled $10,000. "I organized an event by myself last year," said Rachel, "but wanted to make it bigger and more impactful this year, so I started a club so more Eastside students could get involved."
