A Gainesville woman was arrested Friday night on allegations she hit a child several times with a belt for not listening and for not doing her chores and homework, according to a Gainesville Police Department report.
Elaine Howe, 46, was charged with one count of child abuse, the arrest report states.
A portion of the report that gives the woman’s relationship to the child was eliminated from the police report. The incident happened Wednesday. The child had significant marks and bruises to her right and left forearms, police said.
The report states the child’s doctor saw the injuries the following day and made a report to the Florida Department of Children and Families, which led to the police investigation.
GPD’s report states Howe told the doctor that she beat the girl for not listening to her.
