These six flicks feature homegrown celebrities who went on to become household names

These days it may seem as though stars — the sort that occasionally walk among us, not the kind that twinkle above us — spring up, fully formed and instantly famous, at a YouTube laboratory.
But that's not how it really goes.
Not with stars made to last.
Those stars are forged, one light at a time, by their experiences.
In ways big and small, Gainesville and the surrounding areas have helped to increase the wattage of some of the brightest lights in the world of music, movies and books — from rock icon Tom Petty and actors River Phoenix and Joaquin Phoenix to comedian Maya Rudolph and writer Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings.
These five films pay homage to our stellar celebrities.
