Deputies seek to find woman who used counterfeit money


The Alachua County Sheriff's Office released these images of a woman suspected of using counterfeit money to buy a reloadable prepaid card.

Alachua County sheriff's deputies are searching for a woman in they suspect of purchasing a reloadable prepaid card with fraudulent currency at a Newberry gas station.

At about 11:40 a.m. n Jan. 28, the woman purchased a Green Dot prepaid card at the Kanagroo Express on Southwest 250th Street in Newberry, Alachua County Sheriff's Office public information officer Art Forgey said.

Forgey added that the agency has seen an increase in fraudulent laser jet printed money being used in the area.

"Maybe it's because of the times, but there has been an increase in what seems to be people at home with their computers scanning in money and then cutting it out to use," he said.
