Longtime Gainesville High swim coach Rob Ramirez was recently named Class 3A Boys Swim Coach of the Year by the Florida Dairy Farmers and runner-up to overall swim coach of the year.

Ramirez, who just completed his 27th season as GHS swim coach, led the boys team to a runner-up finish at the 3A state meet. It was the fourth straight top-three finish for the Hurricanes, who won the state title in 2011. It was the second time in the past three years Ramirez has been named 3A coach of the year.

“We lost a very close meet at state,” said Ramirez, whose team placed second to Miami Belen Jesuit by nine points (249-240). “It is nice that my peer coaches recognized me and my assistant coaches with rallying our team to contend for that state title.”
