A new business delivers the grocery store to your doorstep.
Launched on Nov. 5, Lazy Delivery picks up items from any store in Gainesville — Walmart, Publix, CVS, Trader Joe's, etc. — and can deliver them as quickly as within the hour.
The company was founded by Marc Charbel, 23, a recent graduate of the University of Florida master's program in biomedical engineering, and current UF electrical engineering student Manuel Zelaya, 24.
“We both have lived on campus … and we didn't have a car as first-year freshman students,” Charbel said. “So it was very challenging every time we wanted to go shopping.”
The company has reached about 100 deliveries a week. There are 12 employees, including management and eight delivery drivers.
Delivery within the hour — or “instant delivery” — is $10 for the first 10 items plus the grocery prices. If the delivery is scheduled in advance, the cost is $7 for the first 10 items. For both delivery methods, each item beyond 10 is 70 cents, and single products count as one item regardless of quantity.
“If you want three gallons of milk, that counts as one item,” Charbel said. “If you want three bottles of Coke, that's one item.”
Restrictions include purchases that require identification such as alcohol, medicine, firearms and ammunition.
David Peterside, 24, began using Lazy Delivery within the past couple weeks.
“I'll get home from work or class … and by the time I shower and change and get comfortable in my apartment, my delivery is there,” the UF graduate engineering student said.
Lazy Delivery is open to all Gainesville residents, Charbel said. Orders can be placed at LazyDelivery.com or 639-0734. An iPhone app is also scheduled to go live Friday.
