The Florida Highway Patrol will be conducting a roadside checkpoint in Gainesville on New Year’s Eve.
The multi-agency checkpoint will be at the 5300 block of Northeast 39th Avenue starting at 10 p.m. on Dec. 31 and will be on both the eastbound and westbound lanes. The FHP said it hopes to stop drivers who are impaired, a news release said.
The checkpoint will identify people who are operating a vehicle with defective equipment, without a license, without vehicle registration, without insurance or while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, the release said.
The FHP also is asking people to report drivers they suspect may be impaired by dialing “Star FHP (*347)” to reach the nearest FHP Communications Office.
