Roundup: Mann earns AVCA First Team All-America honor

LEXINGTON, Ky. —Gator volleyball senior middle blocker Chloe Mann, the nation’s leading hitter through 2013 (.506) and the NCAA career record-holder for hitting efficiency (.476), can take one final bow with her second straight AVCA First Team All-America honor to cap off a stellar career at Florida.
Mann highlighted UF’s five All-America honorees, released by the AVCA on Wednesday, as senior setter Taylor Brauneis, freshman right-side hitter Alex Holston, sophomore outside hitter Ziva Recek and junior libero Taylor Unroe all notched AVCA All-America Honorable Mention accolades.
For the second straight year, Brauneis and Recek picked up All-America Honorable Mention honors, while Holston and Unroe garnered their first career AVCA All-America awards. Holston and Unroe give UF an all-time tally of 31 All-Americans with 76 honors in the storied history of Florida volleyball. Mann is just the fifth Gator to earn multiple First Team All-America accolades during her career as a Gator.
Florida’s five honorees marks the most in program history following the AVCA’s regional realignment this year, while Holston is UF’s second consecutive freshman All-America Honorable Mention recipient following Recek’s national honors in 2012.
All five Florida honorees were selected to the AVCA All-Southeast Region Team last week, while the quintet additionally made noise in the Southeastern Conference this season as four of the five — Mann, Holston, Recek and Unroe garnered All-SEC accolades. Holston was additionally named to the SEC All-Freshman squad and Unroe was tabbed the 2013 SEC Libero of the Year, UF’s second-ever defensive player of the year honor.
Soccer: Junior goalkeeper Taylor Burke is part of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Scholar All-South Region second team.
This is Burke’s second NSCAA accolade of 2013, as earlier this month she was named to the NSCAA All-South Region third team. This past season, Burke earned nine solo shutouts to bring her career total to 23, which is second all-time among Gator goalkeepers. Her 2013 goals-against-average of 0.543 ranked No. 13 among NCAA Division I goalkeepers.
