Alachua County Public Schools is encouraging families to continue donating food items for the district’s winter break food drive, which ends Friday.

The food drive will benefit local students and their families who are at risk of going hungry over the schools’ winter break.

Last year, the district was able to distribute boxes of food to about 800 families.

A list of items needed for each box is available on the district’s website,, under the calendar section.

Donations can be dropped off at Chiles Elementary School, 2525 Schoolhouse Road; Littlewood Elementary, 812 NW 34th St.; Terwilliger Elementary, 301 NW 62nd St.; Lincoln Middle, 1001 SE 12th St.; or the Kirby-Smith Center, 620 E. University Ave.

Alachua County Schools is also accepting monetary donations and grocery gift cards for the food drive. Checks should be made out to the Education Foundation of Alachua County, with “Food Basket Project” in the memo line, and can be taken to the same locations.
