Florida’s disappointing 4-8 football season was reflected in the 2013 All-SEC Team that was released by The Associated Press on Monday.
Only one Gator — true freshman cornerback Vernon Hargreaves III — made the first team. The only other UF players on the team were sophomore defensive end Dante Fowler Jr. and junior cornerback Loucheiz Purifoy, who are on the second team.
Despite being the only true (or redshirt) freshman selected to the first team, Hargreaves was not named the freshman of the year in a vote by members of the media that cover the SEC. That distinction went to Arkansas running back Alex Collins.
Hargreaves played in all 12 games for the Gators, recording 38 total tackles and three interceptions. He led the SEC in pass breakups with 11.
The SEC offensive player of the year is Auburn running back Tre Mason, while the top defensive player is Missouri defensive end Michael Sam. Auburn’s Gus Malzahn is the coach of the year.
