Cornerstone advances to 7-man state final

Jake Altom and Jonah Nelson combined for seven touchdowns and Cornerstone Academy totaled 457 yards of offense in a 60-34 win over Land O'Lakes' Academy at the Lakes in the state semifinals of the Florida Christian Association of Private and Parochial Schools 7-man football league on Friday.
The Cougars (11-0) will face Ave Maria's Donahue Catholic (9-2) at 7:30 p.m. in Saturday's state final at Bryant Stadium in Lakeland. The Shamrocks advanced after beating Tarpon Springs Solid Rock Community, 73-44.
Altom scored on a 75-yard kickoff return, and also had two receiving TDs and one rushing. He finished with 320 all-purpose yards. Nelson passed for 265 yards, ran for two TDs and caught a scoring pass. David Cook and Matt Dudek led the Cougars defensively with 18 and 11 tackles, respectively.
Cornerstone, coached by Tim Johnson, is winning by an average of 44.4 points a game.
