A Hawthorne Middle/High School student was arrested Friday morning on a charge of making a false bomb threat Thursday, a call that closed the school for several hours.
Alachua County Sheriff’s spokesman Art Forgey said the 15-year-old was taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center on the charge.
Forgey said investigators were able to trace the call to the teen through a cellphone used to make the threat. The phone belonged to a friend of the suspect.
The school was evacuated after the call came in. Authorities suspected the call was a hoax, and no explosives were found in the school after a search.
Classes resumed later in the morning.
