Gary Bradford, who was charged this week with sexual battery, was convicted in 2011 of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. An earlier version of this article inaccurately reported his conviction.
A Gainesville man was charged with sexual battery after police say he raped a woman at his house on Sunday.
Bradford Keith Gary, 21, of 4423 NW 41st Lane, and an 18-year-old woman were at his house Sunday at 7:30 p.m., the Gainesville Police Department reported. The victim, who is homeschooled, has known Gary for about two months through Facebook and text message conversations, the police report said.
While the two were in Gary's bedroom, the victim told police he forced himself on her. The victim said she hit Gary with her hands and cell phone to get away, the report said.
Police said there were two red marks on Gary's face that were consistent with the victim's statements.
Officers tried to talk to Gary several times, but they said he refused to speak about the incident. Gary was convicted in 2011 of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Gary served 364 days in jail and six months of probation, according to State Attorney's Office spokesman Darry Lloyd.
In the current case, Gary was charged with one felony count of sexual battery and was being held Thursday at the Alachua County jail in lieu of $100,000 bond.
