Police arrested a Gainesville man Sunday evening after they say he punched a man unconscious and later attacked a bystander.

Jackson McKay III, 27, of 1601 SW 51st Terrace, Apt. 2323, was drinking Sunday at 101 Cantina on West University Avenue at 6:38 p.m. when he became aggressive and began shadow boxing himself, the Gainesville Police Department reported.

McKay started confronting other customers in a hostile manner and was taken out of the business by staff members, police said. As he was being taken out, he threw a random punch and struck a man in the face, knocking him to the ground and leaving him unconscious for about three minutes, the police report said.

Witnesses said McKay then kicked the man “soccer-style” in the face as he lay on the ground. The man sustained a large cut on his forehead from McKay's attack, the report said.

Police said customers took McKay outside, but once there McKay became aggressive again and took his shirt off. He then rushed at a bystander and said, “You're with them,” and began punching him. The victim began fighting back, and law enforcement broke up the fight, the report said.

McKay had just been released from custody Saturday after he was arrested for resisting a law enforcement officer, the report said.

McKay was charged with felony battery, simple battery and disorderly intoxication, according to the police report. He was booked into the Alachua County jail, where he remained Monday in lieu of $40,000 bond.
