The Alachua County Library District is hosting seasonal guests and programs for children of all ages. Here is a sampling of craft activities, music lessons, puppet shows, gaming competitions and more available at local libraries. Attendance is free but advance registration is required for some programs. The complete calendar is available at www.aclib.us/events.

■ Art in Archer: Coloring contest with sidewalk chalk. Decorate stepping stones, and compete for the best design, 3 p.m. Dec. 4. Prizes awarded for two age groups: 5-7 and 8-11.
6640 SE 221st St., Hawthorne
■ Teen Guitar Lessons: Sign up for guitar lessons offered by library staff. No instruments or materials necessary, 4 p.m. Thursday and Dec. 12, 19 and 26. Call 481-1920.
401 E. University Ave., Gainesville
■ Musikgarten in the Story Woods Room: Active music-making, bouncing and rocking songs, wiggle and peek-a-boo games, dancing, moving and singing, 11 a.m. Saturday. For children 1 to 5.
■ Minecraft Madness in the Teen Space: Build constructions in a 3-D-generated world with an unlimited supply of resources and the ability to fly, 4 p.m. Dec. 12.

■ Santa’s at the Library: Children of all ages visit with Santa and get a treat bag. Bring a camera for a picture with the big guy, 6 p.m. Dec. 17.
1130 NE 16th Ave., Gainesville
■ Beading Just for Youth: Children 5 to 11 learn how to make cool jewelry in this beginners beading program, 3:30 p.m. Tuesday and Dec. 17.
■ Open Mic for Teens: Teens showcase their talents with song, rap, jokes or poetry. The only requirement is being respectful of your peers, 4 p.m. Wednesday.

■ Read to a Dog: Children 5 to 11 read to Nalia the retired seeing-eye dog who loves books and a good belly rub, 3 p.m. Wednesday and Dec. 11 and 18.
■ A Puppet Man and a Storybook Lady: Children 1 to 11 watch as A Puppet Man & A Storybook Lady perform story time with books and puppets, 1 p.m. Dec. 21.

■ Gingerbread House Contest: Children and teens build gingerbread houses for the holiday season. The best gingerbread house will win a prize, and each attendee can eat or take home his or her creation, 3 p.m. Dec. 18.

■ Holidays on the Loose with Dr. Seuss: A holiday party featuring the one-and-only Grinch, plus games, stories, a classic holiday film and snacks for children of all ages, 3:30 p.m. Dec. 16.
■ New Year’s Open Mic: Children of all ages invited to tell their New Year’s resolutions, or talk about their favorite books, movies, special talents or recap the year 2013. Refreshments provided, 3 p.m. Dec. 30.
