A motorcyclist was killed in Gainesville Saturday night after passing another vehicle on the right and then losing control, Gainesville police spokesman officer Ben Tobias reported.

The accident happened about 8:14 p.m. on Southwest 20th Avenue between 43rd Street and 62nd Boulevard.

A preliminary investigation indicates the motorcyclist was eastbound and passed another vehicle on the right. He re-entered the traffic lane, lost control and was hit by another vehicle, Tobias said.

Tobias said the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet. His identity has not been released because family had not been notified.

The section of 20th Avenue in which the accident occurred was closed to traffic as part of the investigation.
