A Lake City woman was killed early Friday morning when she was hit by a car while walking along a road, reported the Florida Highway Patrol.

Dead is Rose May Franks, 82, according to an FHP press release.

The accident happened about 2:50 a.m. on Columbia County Road 242A near CR 131.

Franks was walking in the eastbound lane of CR 242A. Chad E. Driskell, 24, of Lake City was driving a 1994 Ford pickup truck east on CR 242A. Driskell told troopers he failed to see Franks in time to avoid the crash. Neither Driskell nor a passenger were injured.

The accident is under investigation and charges are pending.

Stephen Franks, Rose Franks’ son, said his mother had Alzheimer’s and dementia. He said he lived with her and believes she slipped out of the house while he was sleeping.
