The Calusa Animal Inn on Millhopper Road has closed after more than 30 years, conforming to zoning restrictions in a residential area.

A couple of years ago a neighbor began filing noise complaints against the kennel, which brought it to the attention of the county’s code enforcement. A resolution was reached allowing the kennel, owned by Russell Milner, to stay open until Feb. 28, 2014.

The kennel’s lease expires on Saturday, however, and Milner will not be renewing it, said Steve Scott, attorney for the property owner.

Milner could not be reached for comment.

Scott said the kennel closed earlier this month, ahead of the Saturday deadline, because Milner had a health issue.

The kennel at 6321 Millhopper Road opened in 1977. Zoning regulations changed after it opened.
