A runner was airlifted to the hospital after being hit by a car in Levy County Saturday night.

The runner, who has not been identified yet, was going north in the southbound lane of U.S. 19 near Northwest 172nd Lane around 9:15 p.m. when he was hit by a 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser driven by 66-year-old Judith Reiderman of Trenton, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Reiderman told the FHP she did not see the runner until the last minute. She swerved right to avoid hitting him, but struck the runner with the front of her car.

The runner came to rest in the median and was flown to UF Health Shands Hospital for treatment. The Hispanic man had regained consciousness on Sunday and authorities were looking for an interpreter to help learn his identity.

Reiderman sustained minor injuries and about $1,500 worth of damages to her car.
